Vietnam-Kazakhstan create favorable conditions to support the development of cooperation in each country's strong sports

Within the framework of the state visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan (from May 5 to 7) by General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, along with the Vietnamese delegation, on May 6, in the capital Astana, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam Nguyen Van Hung and Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan Yerbol Myrzabossynov signed a memorandum of understanding on sports cooperation in the presence of General Secretary To Lam and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Accordingly, both sides commit to facilitating and supporting the development of cooperation in each country's strong sports such as weightlifting, wrestling, boxing, vovinam, and traditional martial arts. They will also collaborate to support athletes, coaches, and sports organizers in participating in competitions, training, and other events held on each other's territories, as well as establishing direct relations between the sports federations and national sports organizations of both countries.

Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung and Kazakhstan's Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabossynov signed a Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation.

Along with that, both sides will exchange information about sports events organized on the territory of each country; strategic programs, scientific methodological information on issues of entertainment for the people through sports.

The latest achievements in the field of high-performance sports, sports medicine diagnostics, biosupport methods, and the use of modern scientific equipment in high-performance sports training; experience in managing sports infrastructure.

Coordinating the implementation of measures to prevent doping in competition, training, and athlete education is also an area of mutual interest, affirming the commitment to enhance cooperation.

The sports cooperation memorandum signed between the two ministries continues to serve as a legal basis for both sides to enhance sports exchange relations, paving the way for the development of cooperation in these fields, commensurate with the Vietnam-Kazakhstan strategic partnership.

Joint statement on upgrading Vietnam-Kazakhstan relations to a strategic partnership, contributing to the overall success of General Secretary To Lam's state visit to Kazakhstan – the first visit by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Kazakhstan in over 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The historic visit further deepens and comprehensively enhances the Vietnam-Kazakhstan bilateral relationship, reflecting the consistent importance and policy of the Vietnamese Party and State in strengthening friendly and comprehensive cooperation with traditional partner countries in the Central Asian region.

Within the framework of the visit, the two sides issued a Joint Declaration on the establishment of the Vietnam-Kazakhstan Strategic Partnership.The joint statement has 35 clauses, and in the field of culture, sports, and tourism, it emphasizes: "Both sides strive to continue promoting the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan in the fields of culture and sports, signed in 2015; and to enhance cultural, artistic, and sports exchanges between the two countries"; training athletes in each other's strong sports (indoor soccer, volleyball...).The Two Sides acknowledge the importance of organizing Vietnam Culture Day in Kazakhstan in 2025 and Kazakhstan Culture Day in Vietnam in 2026.The two sides recognize the necessity of continuing to promote the signed agreements; enhancing the promotion of each side's tourism potential and strengths; and actively exchanging experiences and information on policies and tourism management.
