Continue to promote high-performance sports cooperation Viet Nam – France

On the afternoon of August 27, in Hanoi, Deputy Director of the Viet Nam Sports Authority, Nguyễn Hồng Minh, chaired a meeting with Mr. Cồ Minh Đức, Secretary-General of the Francophone Sports Association.

The purpose of the meeting is to prepare for the cooperation program between the French Ministry of Sport, Youth and Community life and the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in the near future; while also continuing to implement the cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Sports Authority and the Francophone Sports Association signed in 2025. Through this, both sides aim to upgrade cooperation between the two parties to promote the development of Vietnamese sports at international sports events.

At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Director Nguyễn Hồng Minh expressed his delight in welcoming the Secretary-General of the Francophone Sports Association at the headquarters of the Viet Nam Sports Authority. On the side of the Francophone Sports Association, Secretary-General Cồ Minh Đức also expressed enthusiasm and high expectations for today's meeting between the two parties.

Introducing the activities and goals of the Association in recent times, Secretary-General Cồ Minh Đức expressed the view: The cooperative relationship and support for Vietnamese sports still have a lot of room for development.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director Nguyễn Hồng Minh emphasized: Recently, Vietnamese sports have received support from France for training many teams, notably in the sport of Shooting. Based on that, the Viet Nam Sports Authority hopes that this support will be continued and expanded to many other sports in the future.

Deputy Director Nguyễn Hồng Minh hopes that the Francophone Sports Association will provide more extensive support. Specifically, in addition to supporting sports teams, it also includes other human resources in Vietnamese sports such as expert teams, psychologists, etc. Aiming toward implementing a long-term cooperation agreement between the two parties.

Understanding the desires and expectations of the leaders of the Vietnamese sports sector, the representative of the Francophonie Association affirming the continuous creation of a positive cooperation space with Viet Nam in bringing strong sports teams to France for training to enhance their skills; supporting the training of coaches and experts... within the permissible conditions.

Among France's strong sports, both sides particularly focus on enhancing cooperation to support the Vietnamese Judo team. Accordingly, the two sides reached a common agreement to select the most promising and potential athletes, sending them to France for intensive, long-term training with the goal of the Olympics.

Regarding this issue, Deputy Director Nguyễn Hồng Minh hopes that with the support of France, specifically the Francophone Sports Association, the key Judo athletes will be able to compete and achieve good results in the 2028 Olympics.

According to the sports cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Sports Authority (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Vietnam-France Friendship and Cooperation Association, and the Francophone Sports Association (AFS): for the period 2025 – 2028, the parties commit to enhancing exchanges and promoting high-performance sports activities between France and Viet Nam, aiming to improve sports achievements and prepare teams for the 2028, 2032, and 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games with the goal of winning medals.

The main objectives of the agreement include: Implementing a training program for 64 athletes and supporting 16 Vietnamese coaches from 2025 to 2028 in France; Organizing training programs, competitions, and sports exchanges in France and Viet Nam to enhance the effectiveness of sports training to reach Olympic standards; From 2026, France will provide expert support to establish or upgrade a high-level sports training and coaching center in Viet Nam; Promote the spirit of sports, cultural exchange, and solidarity between French and Vietnamese youth.
