Vietnam – Russia strengthen comprehensive cooperation in Culture, Sports, and Tourism

In the field of culture and arts, in the year 2024, Minister Nguyen Van Hung and Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong had a visit to Russia; successfully organized Vietnam Cultural Days in Russia. Commemorating the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the basic principles of Vietnam - Russia friendship relation with the following programs: art performances; Photo exhibition on Vietnamese cultural heritage in Moscow, St. Petersburg; Exhibition of documentary photos of President Ho Chi Minh at the Lenin Memorial Site (Ulyanovsk); Vietnamese Film Days in Moscow; Vietnam tourism promotion program in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Also in 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sent 03 art troupes to participate in 03 International Circus Festivals in Russia (International Circus Festival in Moscow, International Circus Festival in St. Petersburg, International Circus Festival in Saratov) as judges and actors participating in the Festival.

Regarding tourism, in July 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized 02 programs to promote Vietnam tourism in Moscow and St. Petersburg to attract Russian tourists to Vietnam. The two sides continue to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation for the period 2019-2024. In the first 9 months of 2024, the number of Russian visitors to Vietnam reached 159,382, an increase of 18% over the same period last year.

In the field of sports: In February 2024, the Vietnam E-Sports and Entertainment Association sent representatives to Russia to participate in the pilot competition in the Sports Innovation Project "Future Games" and the International Movement "Phygital" and won the championship in the Digital Physical Basketball event. In September 2024, the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation discussed sports cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the 25th Session of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee.

In the coming time, the two sides will continue to strengthen comprehensive cooperation in all fields. Thereby promoting the country, people and culture of the two countries deeper and broader.

Specifically, Russian Ambassador Bezdeko Gennady hopes to receive support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize a number of events such as: Performance program of the Turetskiy Choir, Music project "Rising Stars" of Russians (lecturers, postgraduates of the Moscow Conservatory who have won awards at international music competitions) to Vietnam and request Vietnam to allow the organization of the program; Invite Vietnam to participate in the International Sports Forum "Russia - a sports power" (Ufa), scheduled to take place on October 17-19, 2024; Invite Vietnam to participate in the International Program "Wonderful Country" to link high-quality and accessible discovery tours in the educational process in Russia.

In response to the Ambassador's suggestions, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong fully agreed, supported, and created conditions within the authority of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the above activities to be successfully organized. Based on the actual working situation, Vietnam will participate in the activities proposed by the Russian side.

Particularly in the field of sports, in the coming time, the two sides will implement the memorandum of understanding with specific activities: Vietnam continues to study the possibility of sending a delegation of athletes to participate in a number of sports events organized by Russia; Organize the first meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Sports Cooperation Working Group.

Overview of the working session

In July 2024, the two sides established the Vietnam-Russia Sports Working Group and signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Sports Cooperation. To implement these agreements, Vietnam plans to send a delegation to Russia to meet the Working Group and discuss implementation measures.

In recent times, Vietnam supported Russia's candidates in international sports federations frequently, typically the International Chess Federation, the International Boxing Federation, etc.

At the meeting, Deputy Director of Vietnam Sports and Physical Department Nguyen Hong Minh said: According to the plan, the working delegation will have a working trip to Russia in December 2024. Vietnam hopes that Russia will consider the possibility of welcoming the Vietnamese delegation. Russia is one of the great powers in the field of Sports, so Vietnam hopes to receive support from Russia in the field of athlete training in the coming years .

Regarding this content, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has had a meeting with the Russian Deputy Minister of Sports towards substantive cooperation. Iin order to improve the achievements of sports, the Vietnam hopes to receive support from Russia in training managers, training athletes, especially training coaches for key sports.

Responding to the Deputy Minister, the Russian Ambassador said Russia is always ready to cooperate with Vietnam in the field of Sports.
