Elevating the cooperation relationship in tourism, sports and culture between Viet Nam and China

On the afternoon of January 8, in Hanoi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng had a meeting and working session with the Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E Mr. He Wei.

Expressing his pleasure at welcoming H.E Mr. He Wei and the delegation of the Chinese Embassy visiting and working at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Minister Nguyễn Văn Hùng hoped to take this opportunity to discuss the areas of cooperation that both sides are interested in. Sharing at the meeting, the Minister stated: adhering to the common understanding in the stance, viewpoint, and direction of cooperation of the Viet Nam-China Joint Declaration, along with the attention of the Party and State leaders, the two sides have coordinated and implemented many cultural, sports, and tourism cooperation activities. The results achieved in these areas have deepened and made the cooperation between the two countries more sustainable.

The Minister also emphasized: people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in culture and tourism have created opportunities for the people of both countries to learn about each other's culture and history. Annual exchange activities such as delegation exchanges at all levels and cultural exchanges have left many positive impressions. Vietnamese people are traveling to China more and more, and conversely, Chinese people also really enjoy traveling to Viet Nam. People-to-people exchanges through tourism to learn about culture and traditional customs have been elevated to a new level. Bilateral cooperation between localities sharing a border with China has been emphasized and strengthened. Along with that, in the field of sports, Viet Nam always receives enthusiastic support from China in training and improving the skills of athletes. Cooperation direction for 2025, the Minister hopes that with the companionship of Ambassador He Wei, the cooperation in culture, sports, and tourism between the two countries will flourish even more.

Accordingly, the Minister emphasized that both sides need to strengthen exchanges and develop cooperation programs to concretize the signed documents; to embody the spirit of the Joint Declaration to deepen the relationship between the two countries. Emphasizing cultural-tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges through creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to visit and learn about cultural traditions in China. This will also help increase the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting China. Conversely, the Minister also hopes that China will cooperate to increase the number of tourists to Vietnam to the top spot. The Minister emphasized that culture and art are important bridges to help the people of the two countries come closer together. Therefore, in the near future, Viet Nam will send several artistic troupes to exchange and perform in China to promote Vietnamese culture. The Minister also hopes that China will send artistic troupes to perform in Viet Nam. Along with that, the two sides can study and organize film weeks in each country. Regarding the cultural sector, the Minister stated: Viet Nam will create the best conditions for the Chinese Cultural Center in Viet Nam to operate effectively. At the same time, we hope that China will provide positive support so that Viet Nam can soon implement the project to establish the Viet Nam Cultural Center in China. One of the important events emphasized by the Minister is the series of exhibitions "Following the Footsteps of President Hồ Chí Minh – Uncle Hồ with China" in the localities where Uncle Hồ lived and worked in the revolutionary movement, and in some other cities; coordinating the development of red tourism products in China to commemorate the 135th anniversary of President Hồ Chí Minh's birth. The Minister affirmed that this series of activities will help the people of Viet Nnam and China better understand the life, background, and career of President Hồ Chí Minh, as well as enhance the education of revolutionary traditions for the Vietnamese people, and expressed the desire for China to support these special events.

In the field of sports, the Minister hopes that both sides will strengthen the implementation of signed cooperation documents; he suggested that China continue to support Viet Nam in training in sports where China has strengths such as gymnastics, athletics, archery... From there, help Viet Nam improve its performance on the international stage. The Minister believes that with the companionship of Ambassador He Wei, with the same purpose of bringing hearts closer together and holding hands tighter, the cooperative relationship in the field of Culture, Sports, and Tourism between the two sides will see remarkable development.

Thanks Minister Nguyễn Văn Hùng, for taking the time to welcome the delegation. Ambassador He Wei also expressed his willingness to contribute to the overall success of the cultural, sports, and tourism cooperation between the two countries, further strengthening the rich traditional friendship between the two nations. Agreeing with the proposals of Minister Nguyễn Văn Hùng, Ambassador He Wei affirmed that these are very practical contributions aimed at nurturing the cultural and tourism cooperation between China and Vietnam. Especially looking towards 2025, the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Year of Vietnam-China Cultural Exchange, both sides need to strengthen cultural, sports, and tourism cooperation activities, elevating the development cooperation to a new height. In the tourism sector, to attract Vietnamese tourists, historical sites with Vietnamese significance in China are currently offering several incentives such as free admission tickets and arranging professional tour guides. Regarding sports, an area that Ambassador He Wei considers an important aspect of cooperation between the two countries, China is ready to support VietNam in training and improving the skills of coaches and athletes. Along with that, China will also support Viet Nam in sending officials to learn from the experience of organizing large-scale sports events, specifically participating in the 15th National Games of China in Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Area in October/November 2025. Regarding other activities such as implementing signed cooperation documents or the series of exhibitions Following in the footsteps of President Hồ Chí Minh, the ambassador stated: China warmly welcomes and believes that the activities, when implemented, will significantly contribute to elevating the cultural, sports, and tourism cooperation between the two countries to a new height.
