The Sports Authority of Viet Nam (SAV), Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) and Performance 54 Viet Nam have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to level up the golf and golf tourism development in Viet Nam.
SAV Director Dang Ha Viet and VNAT Director Nguyen Trung Khanh co-chaired the ceremony.
SAV Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen also took part in the event.
Previously, Performance 54 Viet Nam conducted activities and proposed a plan to make golf an attractive sports tourism product. After it was reported and received an agreement of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the VNTA coordinated with the SAV to carry out related works, leading to the MoU signing ceremony between the above units on November 28 in the capital city.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director Nguyen Trung Khanh said: “This signing event is an important milestone for the parties to implement the issues that have been agreed through our recently working sessions.”
In recent times, the national tourism has showed strong recovery. In the first nine months of 2024, the industry has made a spectacular breakthrough, achieving results on par with the time before the COVID-19 pandemic. With its existing potentials, Viet Nam is trying hard to develop a number of new products including golf tourism.
In the Tourism System Planning for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2045, golf tourism is considered an outstanding tourism product.
Viet Nam currently has 100 golf courses in operation and it is expected to increase to 200 courses in the future.
This is a positive sign showing great opportunities to develop this type of tourism in the country.
In addition, Viet Nam was honoured as one of the best destination in the world in 2019 and 2021. Most recently the country was named the Best Destination in Asia for the eighth time by the World Golf Award.
These awards clearly show the potential and development opportunities of golf tourism in the S-shaped country.
However, there is a fact that the service quality has not been professional and met the demands.
It is the reason why the MoCST assigned relevant agencies to research and develop a specific and methodical strategy based on a goal of sustainable golf and golf tourism development.
The SAV and VNTA received proposals and active participation from Performance 54 Viet Nam to join in the golf strategy.
Accordingly, Performance 54 proposed to organise an international golf conference in 2025 in Hue, which is expected to be an opportunity to find resources to optimize organizational costs. The group also submitted plans to build the golf development strategy, Director Nguyen Trung Khanh said.
Also at the signing ceremony, Founder and CEO of Performance 54 Jed Moore highly appreciated the great development opportunities of golf in Viet Nam.
He said the MoU on golf tourism development would be a leverage for later outstanding activities and events of golf in Viet Nam.
Jed Moore also expressed his commitment to contribute to golf tourism in Vietnam by providing high technology application and experienced staff.

In addition, Performance 54 branches in Singapore, Japan, England, America and Spain will also accompany Viet Nam to develop its golf tourism strategy.
Jed Moore believed that with such advantages Viet Nam’s golf tourism would make remarkable achievements which were even better than the countries that Performance 54 supported previously.
In the SAV side, Director Dang Ha Viet expressed his honour to coordinate and accompany the VNTA and Performance 54 Viet Nam in developing golf in particular and golf tourism in general in Viet Nam.
He said golf was a sport that was very suitable for the physical health of Vietnamese people in high-performance tournaments. However, the cost of training athletes till they achieved high results was very high, preventing Viet Nam from developing golf popularly.
Therefore, the national sport industry and its managers always sought for more social resources to widely develop this sport.
He believed that the companionship of Performance 54 Viet Nam would be a solid foundation to effectively implement the national goals of golf in general, high-performance golf in competition and golf tourism.
It can be said that the signed MoU on golf tourism development in Viet Nam would ensure golf tourism development in a sustainable, methodical and professional manner. And it would positively contribute to the development of sports economy as well as tourism in Viet Nam.
The MoU’s minutes were discussed and comments were obtained from relevant agencies, focusing on plans and solutions to make Viet Nam the world's leading golf tourism destination./.
