As in the plan, the meeting will be held in three days from October 14-16 in Vinh Phuc Province. There will have three key conferences: the SOMS-15 on October 14; the SOMS and Japan on October 15 and the SOMS and China on October 16.
At this meeting, as the chair of the SOMS-15, Vietnam will have 2 reports about the 13th ASEAN Students Games in Da Nang, Vietnam, and the activities Vietnam will organise to respond to ASEAN Sports Day. Five sports tournaments to be held are marathon, taekwondo, boxing, traditional wrestling and handball.
At the event, the ASEAN secretariat will update the progress of implementing the ASEAN action plan on sports for the period 2021-25.
The plan includes a number of activities such as: Studies on feasibility of establishing the ASEAN High Performance Center for Sports Training (Malaysia); ASEAN Physical Fitness Indicators (APFI) project (Thailand); Integrating sports into youth crime prevention while building resilience in society (Thailand); 13th ASEAN Student Games (Vietnam); 14th ASEAN Student Games (Brunei Darussalam); ASEAN Sports Complex (ASEAN Secretariat, Laos); ASEAN Football for Sustainable Development (ASEAN Football4SDGs); Activating the ASEAN Declaration on Leveraging the Role of Sports in ASEAN Community- Building and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (ASEAN Secretariat); ASEAN-Korea Football Interpersonal Exchange and Leadership Development Programme within the framework of ASEAN-Korea cooperation (ASEAN Secretariat).
By successfully organizing the SOMS-15, Vietnam will demonstrate its responsibility and role as an ASEAN member in the specialized cooperation mechanism, while ensure its benefits among participating parties for the purpose of building a peaceful, stable and prosperous ASEAN community.
This summit is also an opportunity to introduce the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends, strengthening friendship and mutual understanding in the ASEAN community.
SAV Director Viet recognized and appreciated the preparation work from the concerning units and agencies for the SOMS-15.
He said this meeting is the basis for the Vietnam’s eighth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS-8), SOMS-16 and related conferences in 2025. He requested the SAV officials to review, discuss, and coordinate closely on every work related to the SOMS-15 preparation. They must ensure the best conditions so that the event would take place successfully, achieving the desired targets.
To date, all preparation activities have been nearly completed, all work related to the meeting has been accelerated and officials in charge are carrying out their tasks with a high sense of responsibility.
In addition, the conditions for infrastructure and facilities to serve the SOMS-15 and welcome international delegations and guests are well carried out by the SAV’s International Cooperation Office and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s International Cooperation Department with the most suitable plans. Programs for the reception, accommodation, guests, transportation, and meeting documents are prepared thoughtfully, Nguyen Hai Duong, Head of International Cooperation Office, said.
Regarding communication work for the meeting, SAV’s Director of the Center for Sports Information and Communication Ly Duc Thuy said: “The center has produced a video clip introducing SOMS and Vietnam's preparations for SOMS-15. It will be screened at the meeting. A new column has been set up to promote news, information and communication about the AMMS-8, SOMS-16 and related conferences in 2025.
