Vietnam U17 set a record for winning the Southeast Asian championship

On April 24 at Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, Indonesia, U17 Vietnam defeated Malaysia 3–0 in the final to claim their fourth Southeast Asian U17 championship, officially becoming the most successful team in the history of the regional competition.

Facing a physically strong and highly motivated Malaysian side, the Vietnamese players approached the match with composure and confidence. They maintained control of the game, executed a well-structured tactical plan, and converted their chances efficiently to seal a convincing three-goal victory. The result reflected their clear superiority in both technical ability and overall match management.

With the 2026 triumph, Vietnam have now won the Southeast Asian U17 title four times (2006, 2010, 2017, and 2026), establishing a new regional record. This achievement once again highlights the consistency and steady progress of Vietnam’s youth football development over the years.

The success in Surakarta is widely regarded as the outcome of a systematic, long-term investment in youth training.

Moreover, increased international training camps and competitive exposure, together with the application of sports science in coaching — including nutrition planning, recovery programs, and opponent data analysis — have significantly enhanced the players’ physical condition and endurance, enabling them to sustain high intensity until the final whistle.

This fourth regional title serves as an important stepping stone as the team now looks ahead to higher-level competitions, including the AFC U17 Championship and, ultimately, qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup. More than just a historic milestone, the 2026 championship provides strong evidence that Vietnam’s long-term youth development strategy is on the right track, laying a firm foundation for the nation’s ambitions on the continental and global stage.
