Nguyen Thuy Trang wins Gold at the 2026 Asian Pistol and Rifle Championships

On February 9, Nguyen Thuy Trang won first gold medal for Vietnam’s shooting team at the 2026 Asian Pistol and Rifle Championships in India.

After the qualification round, Thuy Trang scored 584 points, ranking third and advancing to the final. Meanwhile, Trinh Thu Vinh scored 576 points (12th place) and Nguyen Thuy Dung scored 569 points (16th place).

In the final, Trang and host athlete Bhaker Manu pulled clear of the field to set up a head-to-head duel. The pair were tied on 35 points after 10 shots. Trang eventually edged past the Indian shooter, who won Olympic bronze at Paris 2024, in the shoot-off to claim the gold medal.

A representative of Vietnam’s shooting team coaching staff, speaking from India, said: “We congratulate Thuy Trang on her gold medal. She competed with great composure to achieve this result. This is a highly commendable accomplishment.”

This victory not only marks Thuy Trang’s first gold medal at the Asian level, but also highlights her significant progress in recent years. Two months earlier, she won a silver medal in the same event at the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, where the gold medal went to her teammate Trinh Thu Vinh.

On the same day, Vietnam’s women’s pistol team also earned a bronze medal in the women’s 25m sport pistol team event with a total score of 1,729 points. India topped the standings with 1,751 points, while Chinese Taipei finished second with 1,735 points.

Thuy Trang’s gold medal marks a proud beginning for Vietnam’s shooting team at the 2026 Asian Championships and raises new hopes for further success at regional and global competitions in the future.

The Asian championships will continue until February 14.
