SEA Games 33 on December 14th: Vietnam wins five gold medals

On December 14th, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation continued its strong performance at SEA Games 33, collecting five more gold medals in shooting, swimming, karate and bowling.

In the women's 10m air pistol team event, the trio of Nguyen Thuy Trang, Trinh Thu Vinh, and Trieu Thi Hoa Hong delivered an impressive performance to win the gold medal with a total score of 1711 , breaking the SEA Games record.

In the women's 10m air pistol individual final became Vietnam's stage. Trinh Thu Vinh shot a near-perfect final series to win the gold medal with 242.7 points , breaking the SEA Games record once again. Right behind her was Nguyen Thuy Trang with 241.7 points, winning the silver medal, completing a convincing gold and silver double. Shooters Pham Quang Huy, Nguyen Dinh Thanh, and Lai Cong Minh won the silver medal with a total score of 1717 , while Indonesia won the gold medal and broke the SEA Games record (1736).

In the afternoon, Vietnam received more good news in karate, as the women's team kumite defeated Thailand 2-0 in the final to win the gold medal . In this match, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly won the opening match to gain an advantage, before Hoang Thi My Tam asserted her dominance with an overwhelming victory, securing the championship.

The biggest surprise of the day came in bowling, Tran Hoang Khoi defeated the Thai athlete in the men's singles final, bringing home a historic gold medal – the first time Vietnam has won the bowling championship at the SEA Games.

In the swimming pool, Pham Thanh Bao won the gold medal in the men's 200m breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes 12 seconds 81.Besides Thanh Bao's gold medal, Vietnamese swimming also won a silver medal in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay and a bronze medal in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

In other sports, Vietnamese golf added to the medal tally with Nguyen Anh Minh won silver in the men’s individual event and Le Chuc An winning bronze in the women’s individual event. In team sports, Vietnam’s women’s football team recorded a dominant 5–0 victory over Indonesia in the semifinals, reaching the SEA Games final for the 11th consecutive time. The men’s table tennis team and the women’s volleyball team also advanced to the finals after convincing wins.

As of 10:00 p.m. on December 14, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation was provisionally ranked third on the medal table with 35 gold, 33 silver and 65 bronze medals.
