SEA Games 33 on December 15th: Vietnam wins five gold medals

On the competition day of December 15th, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation added five more gold medals at SEA Games 33. Wushu and athletics were the biggest highlights, alongside notable results in team sports such as men’s football and women’s volleyball.

In wushu, the Vietnamese team enjoyed a strong start to the day. Fighter Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy wons the first gold medal after defeating her Myanmar opponent in the women’s 60kg Sanda event. Continuing this momentum, Truong Van Chuong brought home the second gold medal for Vietnamese Wushu by defeating a Laotian athlete 2-0 in the men's 70kg Sanda event..

In the afternoon of the competition, Athletics continued to demonstrate its strength by winning three gold medals. Quach Thi Lan won the gold medal in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 56.82 seconds. This marked her first individual gold medal at the SEA Games 33.

Nguyen Thi Oanh wons gold medal in the women’s 10,000m race

Soon after, Nguyen Trung Cuong won the gold medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8 minutes 55 seconds 32. The third athletics gold on December 15th belonged to Nguyen Thi Oanh in the women’s 10,000m race with a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds 93. Another Vietnamese athlete, Le Thi Tuyet, finished in second place.

In other sports, Vietnam’s swimming team won three silver medals, while kickboxing saw Bui Thi Yen Nhi wons bronze. The women’s pétanque team won silver, and weightlifter Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien also won a silver medal. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women’s handball team recorded a convincing victory over the Philippines to advance to the final.

In volleyball, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team entered the final against their long-time rivals, Thailand. Despite facing a strong opponent, the Vietnamese players performed exceptionally well, taking a 1-0 lead after the first set. However, the home team demonstrated superior strength, winning the next two sets consecutively, reversing the score to win 25-13 and 25-18 respectively, and taking a 2-1 lead.

In football, Vietnam beat the Philippines 2–0 to advance to the final, securing at least a silver medal.

After six days of competition, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation had won 40 gold medals, 47 silver medals, and 70 bronze medals.
