More attention needed to attract youth to sports and culture

This was the important content discussed during a thematic exchange with a delegation of high-ranking officials from the Russian Federation, held on December 10 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST).

The thematic exchange was taken the chair of Deputy Minister of MCST Ta Quang Dong on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation. Also in attendance were Mr Nguyen Manh Hung (Deputy Director of  the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council) and Mrs Le Thi Hoang Yen (Deputy Director of Sports Authority of Viet Nam).

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong outlined the major challenges facing the cultural sector in the digital era—where youth, specifically Gen Z and Gen Alpha, are forming a new entertainment ecosystem. They prioritize short-form information and interaction via digital spaces, gradually moving away from traditional cultural forms. If there is no innovation in approach, then there will be a risk of a shortage in the successor force across many artistic fields, as young people opt for technology, business, and engineering sectors that offer faster income opportunities.

In the context of these shared challenges, the Sports Authority of Vietnam, in its role as the specialized management agency, contributed practical perspectives and solutions. During the program, Deputy Director Le Thi Hoang Yen represented the Sports Authority of Vietnam to present on attracting youth to the field of sports.

The Deputy Director shared that the most effective approach to attracting youth is the combination of Culture and Sports. This model creates a diverse, dynamic, and highly interactive experience space, overcoming the current limitations of creative spaces for young people.

A prominent example of this direction is the Youth Culture and Sports Festival. This is not simply an amateur competition or a sport event, but a combination of artistic activities, street performances, and cultural exhibitions.

This Festival model leverages the advantages of social media, creating positive community effects and strong viral potential in the digital environment. The cultural and sporting image of both local and national levels is promoted through these events. It also serves as an important occasion to discover and encourage young talents to participate, while raising youth awareness of cultural and sporting values in modern life.

The important thematic exchange with the high-ranking Russian official delegation took place on December 10 at the MCST headquarters

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized that attracting, orienting, and promoting the role of youth in the cultural sector is no longer just a specialized task of the industry, but has become a national strategic requirement. In the digital era, as competition for "soft power" intensifies, it is the younger generation who are the key factors in enhancing Vietnam's cultural influence on the international stage and asserting national status.

Youth, with their ability to spread influence powerfully across digital platforms, are the ones who carry Vietnamese identity to the world. Therefore, nurturing and promoting their role in cultural activities is very important. Furthermore, the engagement and active participation of today’s youth play a decisive role in forming high-quality human resources for the future—the team of artists, creators, and cultural managers in the coming decades.

It can be affirmed that investing in youth through innovative models, such as the combination of culture and sports, is an investment in the future of the nation's creative human resources, ensuring Vietnam's sustainable development and competitiveness in regional and international environments.
