Vietnam wins two gold medals at the 2025 Para Taekwondo Championship

After three days of competition, the Para Taekwondo Cultural & Championship 2025, held in Malaysia, concluded successfully. The Vietnamese Para Taekwondo team had two athletes participating, and both won gold medals.

The Para Taekwondo Cultural & Championship 2025 took place from November 28 to 30 and was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Malaysia, attracting more than 1,000 athletes. Among them were 750 grassroots-level athletes and 300 athletes with disabilities competing in various disability categories. The event for athletes with disabilities, held under the theme “Achieving Dreams,” was organized for the first time and featured participation from seven countries: Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Singapore, Nepal, Indonesia, and Myanmar.

At the competition, the two Vietnamese athletes — Do Huu Thuat (K44, upper limb impairment) and Nguyen Kha Dat (K10, visually impaired) — delivered outstanding performances to secure two gold medals.

Mr. Lee Myong-Silk, head coach of the Vietnam Para Taekwondo team, has spent five years training and guiding athletes with disabilities. Although Taekwondo for persons with disabilities has not yet widely developed in Vietnam, the Korean coach has devoted great efforts to training Vietnamese para-athletes. The participation expenses for the 2025 Para Taekwondo Championship were sponsored by coach Lee Myong-Silk, with additional support mobilized from Korean individuals.

It is expected that on January 14, coach Lee Myong-Silk will organize a friendly festival match with a team from Korea, giving athletes with disabilities valuable opportunities to compete and learn in Taekwondo.
