Asian Athletics wishes to support Vietnam's Athletics development

On the afternoon of November 21, in Hanoi, Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet had a meeting with Mr. Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad - President of the Asian Athletics during his working trip and attending the Council Conference in 2025 of Asian Athletics in Vietnam.

At the meeting, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad expressed his joy to come to Vietnam at the most beautiful time of the year. Vietnam is an important sports partner of Asian Athletics, therefore, at this meeting, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad hopes that the two sides will share their views, propose aspirations as well as discuss to find solutions to further develop continental athletics.

Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet thanked President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad for his good feelings towards Vietnam Athletics and emphasized that: in recent times, Vietnam Athletics has made certain progress in the Southeast Asian region and hopes to make better progress in the Asian region and the world.

Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet said: In the near future, Vietnam Athletics will participate in the 33rd SEA Games with the mindset of being a country with a developed Athletics in the Southeast Asian region. In the Asian arena, Vietnam Athletics has made certain contributions to achievements with 2 gold medals in the 2018 ASIAD. In addition to high-performance sports tournaments, the domestic Athletics training movement has also achieved many remarkable results with about 100 marathons held in Vietnam each year. Not only are grassroots running events developing widely, Athletics is also being developed in schools.

Although it is a sport that receives major investment, there are still many limitations at the Asian and Olympic levels, so Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet hopes that the Asian Athletics Federation will introduce good experts to support Vietnamese Athletics to achieve its goals. In addition, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet also proposed support from the Asian Athletics Federation for post-training and injury recovery for athletes.

Sincerely thanks for the leader of the Vietnam Sports Administration for sharing, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad highly appreciated the fact that Vietnamese Athletics has clearly recognized the importance of Athletics as well as built an effective implementation strategy. According to President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad, a country that does not achieve the universality of a sport will find it difficult to reach out to the world. From that perspective, the Asian Athletics Federation will support and create all conditions for Vietnamese Athletics to develop. With a representative of Vietnamese Athletics participating in the Asian Asian Athletics Council, all important information will be accessed in the most timely and effective manner.

In addition, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad also affirmed that: Vietnamese Athletics has a lot of talent. That is also one of the factors for the Asian Athletics to create conditions for Vietnamese Athletics to benefit from infrastructure at the Federation's Training Centers.

At the 2025 Council Conference of Asian Athletics in Vietnam, the Asian Athletics will organize group working sessions to discuss emerging issues as well as find solutions to overcome and resolve them.

 

President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad also hopes to hear proposals from the Vietnam Athletics so that they can coordinate to further develop Athletics in Vietnam.

Not only for Athletics, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad also expressed his hope that in the near future, Vietnam will be able to organize continental-scale sporting events so that member countries can have the opportunity to visit this beautiful country. With experience in organizing many major events such as the Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts Games, the Asian Beach Games, etc., President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad believes that Vietnam will be able to organize an Asian Games in the near future.

Thanks for President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad for his good feelings for Vietnamese Sports in general and Vietnamese Athletics in particular, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet said: Vietnam is currently building a 60,000-seat stadium. From now until 2030, it is expected that 4 sports urban areas will be built in Hanoi and by 2030, it will be able to ensure the capacity to organize the Asian Games. A similar system has also been directed by the Party and State leaders to be implemented in Ho Chi Minh City.

"Currently, we are also promoting the request for opinions to host a number of continental-scale events. Hopefully, within the next two years, our infrastructure will be able to meet the requirements of the Asian Athletics to organize continental-scale tournaments," Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet shared.

Fully agreeing with the sharing and suggestions from Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad and the Asian Athletics are always willing to accompany and support Vietnam Athletics to remove and overcome difficulties on the journey to affirm its position.

President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad hopes that by 2030, Vietnam will not only organize marathon-related events but also other events and even host tournaments with other countries. Specifically on this issue, President Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad proposed the plan to organize high jump and long jump activities outside the stadium (shopping malls, on the streets, beaches, schools...) to attract the attention of people who love sports. This is also a model that many countries are pursuing and succeeding.
