October 26: Weightlifting wons two bronzes for Vietnam at the 2025 Asian Youth Games

At the end of the competition day on October 26, the Vietnamese weightlifting team wons two bronzes.

In the women’s 44kg category, Dao Thi Yen – Vietnam’s only female representative in the event – successfully lifted 64kg in the snatch, earning herself a bronze medal.

According to the Vietnam Youth Weightlifting coaching staff, Yen’s performance at this Games was “beyond expectations”, as the team had only aimed for a top-five finish in Asia. Securing a medal position on her first appearance at the Asian Youth Games shows that the 18-year-old lifter from Hanoi has great potential to progress further in major international competitions such as the Asian Championships and the Youth Olympic Games.

In the men’s 56kg category, Hung Van The successfully lifted 107kg and 111kg in the snatch, but failed at 114kg in his third attempt. As a result, he claimed the bronze medal in the snatch event.

Just minutes later, the entered the clean and jerk round, successfully completing his opening lift at 132kg. In his second attempt at 137kg, although he managed to lift the bar, technical instability led to a referee disqualification. For his final attempt, the coaching staff decided to raise the weight to 139kg in hopes of breaking into medal contention, but the failed to complete the lift.
