On the evening of September 30, players across the boys’ and girls’ sections entered the decisive 11th and final round to determine their overall standings.
Hoang Quan, the only Vietnamese medalist at this year’s event, had his fate sealed only in the last round. After round 10, he had 8 points and was placed 6th. In the final game, playing Black, he demonstrated outstanding performance to defeat Ivanovic Leonid (Serbia).

This victory elevated his total to 9 points, propelling him to second place and earning him the silver medal in the U10 boys’ division. Across 11 rounds, he scored 8 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. Meanwhile, China’s Yuan Shunzhe also won his last game to reach 9 points, edging out Hoang Quan on tiebreaks to claim the gold medal.
The 2025 World Youth Chess Championship, featuring age groups U8, U10, and U12, was held in Kazakhstan, with players competing in the standard format over 11 rounds in each category.
Apart from Hoang Quan’s success, other Vietnamese participants recorded the following results: Vu Thanh An – 35th place, U8 boys; Vu Nhat Khuong – 27th place, U10 boys; Nguyen Quang Anh – 28th place, U12 boys; Trinh Nguyen Lam – 105th place, U12 boys; Tran Duong Hoang Ngan – 60th place, U12 girls.
