Vietnam wins two gold medals at the 2025 Asian Youth Karate Championships

By securing two gold medals on the final day of competition, the Vietnamese team ranked 5th out of 29 countries on the medal table at the 2025 Asian Youth Karate Championships.

The tournament gathered 489 athletes (288 male, 201 female) from 29 countries and territories across the continent. Vietnam participated with 11 athletes: Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly, Bui Ngoc Nhi, Nguyen Mai Quynh Anh, Phuong Nghi, Quynh Nhu, Chu Van Duc, Tran Thi Cam Tu, Nguyen Hoang Thu Uyen, Van Luong, Huynh Kim Tien, and Nguyen Thi Man.

On the final competition day, Vietnam won two gold medals thanks to the performances of Tran Thi Cam Tu (women’s 59kg) and Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly (women’s 55kg).

In the 55kg U21 women's weightlifting final, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly defeated her opponent Saeidabadi Fatemehzahra (Iran) , winning a gold medal. Next, player Tran Thi Cam Tu defeated her opponent Tambat Rusha (India) in the final match of the 59kg women's junior championship, winning the second gold medal for the Vietnam Karate Team.

In addition to the two gold medals, the Vietnamese team also earned five silver medals: individual kata for female teenagers (Nguyen Mai Quynh), individual kata for young female champions (Bui Ngoc Nhi), teammates of the young women's champion, individual kata for women of the U21 age group (Hoang Thi Thu Uyen) and the 68kg weight class for women U21 (Nguyen Thi Man).

Assessing the athletes’ performance at the tournament, Mr. Vu Son Ha, Head of Karate under the Vietnam Sports Administration, stated:

“At the 2025 Asian Youth Karate Championships, Vietnam fielded the smallest squad among all delegations, with 11 athletes. They represent the most outstanding young talents of the national junior and senior karate teams, selected as part of the preparation for the upcoming 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. At this championship, the team secured 2 gold and 5 silver medals. This is considered a strong result, demonstrating the effectiveness of Vietnam’s youth athlete development program in karate over the past five years.”

Final standings: Vietnam won 2 gold and 5 silver medals, ranking 5th overall.

- 1st place: Japan – 12 golds, 2 silvers, 5 bronzes

- 2nd place: Iran – 7 golds, 9 silvers, 6 bronzes

- 3rd place: Saudi Arabia – 5 golds, 1 silver, 6 bronzes.
