Vietnam wins two Gold Medals at the 2025 World Wushu Championships

Phuong Nga and Thu Thuy secured gold medals for the Vietnam’s wushu team at the 2025 World Wushu Championships.

In the women’s 52kg final, athlete Ngo Thi Phuong Nga achieved a convincing 2–0 victory over opponent Aparna (India), thereby earning the first gold medal for the Vietnam Wushu team.

Subsequently, in the women’s 56kg final, athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy competed against host representative Beatriz Silva (Brazil) and also won 2–0, thereby securing the second gold medal for the team. This gold medal represents the second world championship title in Thu Thuy’s career, following her first at the 2023 World Championships.

Athlete Nguyen Thi Lan competed in the women’s 48kg final but was defeated by Yuxia Du (China), resulting in a silver medal. In the men’s events, Hua Van Doan was eliminated in the 56kg semifinals, while Truong Van Chuong was defeated in the 70kg semifinals.

Duong Thuy Vi obtained a bronze medal in the women’s spear event with a score of 9.746 points. The gold medal was awarded to Zahra Kiani (Iran, 9.763 points), while the silver medal went to Patricia Geraldine (Indonesia, 9.756 points).

The 2025 World Wushu Championships are held in Brazil from 31 August to 8 September. The Vietnamese delegation consists of 12 athletes: Thuy Vi, Van Sy, Trong Lam, Van Doan, Viet Anh, Trung Nguyen, Van Chuong, Nguyen Thi Lan, Phuong Nga, Thu Thuy, Van Huu, and Van Tam.

 

Final Results: Vietnam won 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

- Gold medals (2): Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy – Women’s 56kg; Ngo Thi Phuong Nga – Women’s 52kg

- Silver medals (2): Nguyen Thi Lan – Women’s 48kg; Dinh Van Tam – Men’s 52kg

- Bronze medals (3): Duong Thuy Vi – Women’s spear routine (the only medal in performance events) with 9.746 points; Hua Van Doan – Men’s 56kg; Truong Van Chuong – Men’s 70kg.
