Issuance of the Decision to establish the Organizing Committee for the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Văn Hùng has signed Decision No. 1239/QĐ-BVHTTDL on the establishment of the Organizing Committee for the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS 8) and related meetings in Vietnam.

The 8th  ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports with the theme: "Sports Orientation Contributing to Sustainable Development" is scheduled to take place over 08 days in October 2025 in Hanoi.

The Organizing Committee for the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS 8) and related meetings in Vietnam consists of 22 members, with Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoàng Đạo Cương serving as the Head of the Organizing Committee, and Director of the Sports Authority of Vietnam Nguyễn Danh Hoàng Việt serving as the Permanent Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee.

According to the Decision to establish the Organizing Committee, it is tasked with coordinating with relevant Ministries and agencies to organize the Meeting as per regulations. The Head of the Organizing Committee is responsible for assigning specific tasks to members to implement the general duties.

The Head of the Organizing Committee decides to establish assisting Subcommittees and issues the Working Regulations, decides on the replacement and addition of members of the Organizing Committee; and is responsible to the Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. The members of the Organizing Committee work on a part-time basis.

Hosting the Meeting is Vietnam's obligation and an opportunity to enhance Vietnam's status and demonstrate its role in ASEAN cooperation on Sports in particular and in building the ASEAN Community and relations between ASEAN and its partners in general. Additionally, Vietnam's hosting of the Meeting contributes to the implementation of Party and State documents such as: Conclusion No. 59-KL/TW of the Politburo on the Orientation of ASEAN Participation by 2030; Directive No. 25-CT/TW dated August 8, 2018, of the Secretariat on promoting and elevating multilateral diplomacy by 2030; Decision No. 161/QĐ-TTg dated January 25, 2016, of the Prime Minister approving the Project on building and implementing the Plan to achieve the goals of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community by 2025.

The conference is organized to exchange the ASEAN action plan on sports, focusing on the development of professional sports, sports science, sports economy; gender equality in sports; preservation and promotion of traditional sports; establishment of the ASEAN High-Performance Sports Center, sports and health, sports towards the Millennium Development Goals; development direction, promoting ASEAN cooperation in the field of sports through the Joint Declaration of ASEAN Ministers on Sports in line with the principles and objectives of the ASEAN Charter; promoting sports cooperation between ASEAN member countries and dialogue partners such as China, Japan, South Korea, and international organizations...
