Vietnamese gymnast wins gold at FIG World Challenge Cup

Vietnamese gymnast Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien delivered an outstanding performance to claim the gold in the pommel horse event with a score of 14.266 at the 2025 FIG World Challenge Cup held in Bulgaria.

Xuân Thiện had already impressed in the qualifying round with excellent routines that secured him a spot in the finals for his specialty event, the pommel horse. This is also the event in which he won a gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games.

In the final of the 2025 FIG World Challenge Cup, Xuân Thiện performed an extremely impressive routine. Not only did he execute technically flawless movements that thoroughly convinced the judges, but he also dazzled spectators with his high-difficulty elements. With a score of 14.266, Xuân Thiện surpassed competitors such as Zeinolla Idrissov (Kazakhstan) and Azimov (Uzbekistan) to reach the top of the podium, sparking jubilant celebrations from the coaching staff and teammates.

Speaking to the press after his victory, Xuân Thiện shared that he didn’t put too much pressure on himself and focused on perfecting his routine. “I’m very happy and proud to bring glory to Vietnam. This is a motivation for me to continue striving in upcoming major competitions,” he said.

Also on May 10, another Vietnamese gymnast, Nguyễn Văn Khánh Phong, competed in the final of the rings event. Khánh Phong delivered an excellent performance and secured a silver.
