After female lifter Phạm Đình Thi earned three bronze medals in the women's 45kg category (68kg snatch, 85kg clean and jerk, 153kg total) in the opening competition of the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championship held in Jiangshan City, China, national athlete Lại Gia Thành competed in the men’s 55kg category.

Facing tough opponents such as Wang Wei-dong (China), Al Saleem Mansour (Saudi Arabia), and Agad Fernando Jr. (Philippines), Lại Gia Thành performed confidently and achieved impressive results.
The 27-year-old lifter secured the gold medal in the snatch with a lift of 120kg and earned bronze in the clean & jerk with 140kg.
In the men’s 55kg overall ranking, Lại Gia Thành won silver with a total lift of 260kg, placing behind Wang Wei-dong (China, 265kg) and ahead of Al Saleem Mansour (Saudi Arabia, 254kg).
On the second day of competition (May 10), competing in the men’s 67kg category, lifter Trần Minh Trí won silver in the snatch with 146kg, placed third in the clean & jerk with 172kg, but unexpectedly secured the gold medal in the total with 318kg.
This surprise result allowed the An Giang native to surpass home favorite Zheng Xin-hao (147kg, 170kg, 317kg) and South Korea’s Bae Moon-su (132kg, 174kg, 306kg) on the medal podium.
On May 11, lifter Quàng Thị Tâm won a bronze medal in the women’s 59kg snatch event. This was her first international medal of 2025.
