Vietnam wins three golds at the World Youth and Cadets Chess Championship

On the evening of April 17 in Greece, the Vietnamese youth chess team secured two additional gold medals at the World Youth and Cadets Chess Championship.

In the Girls U10 category, Tran Hoang Bao An showcased outstanding composure with a winning streak of four consecutive games in the final rounds, finishing with a total of 9.5 points to claim the championship title. She edged out Indian players Divi Bijesh and Kiyanna Parihaar by just 0.5 points.

Meanwhile, in the Boys U14 category, chess player Dau Khuong Duy had an impressive unbeaten run (7 wins, 4 draws), scoring 9 points to win the gold medal. His teammate, Duong Vu Anh, also performed exceptionally well to earn the silver medal with 8.5 points.

In the Boys U10 category, an intense “internal clash” took place between two Vietnamese players, Nguyen Xuan Phuong and Hoang Tan Vinh. Tan Vinh won the decisive match, finishing with 8.5 points and ranking second. Despite having the same score as Kazakhstan’s Anetov Amirzhan, Vinh lost on tie-breaks and had to settle for silver, while Amirzhan claimed gold. Xuan Phuong scored 8 points and placed third.

In the Girls U14 division, Tong Thai Hoang An fought hard, ending with three consecutive wins and a total of 8.5 points. However, she only took the silver medal, trailing Turkish champion Aydogan Arya by 0.5 points.

Earlier in the tournament, Vietnam had already won its first gold medal thanks to Nguyen Nam Kiet in the Boys U14 category. In that group, both Dau Khuong Duy and Nguyen Nam Kiet scored 9 points over 11 rounds, but Nam Kiet took the top spot due to better tie-breaks. He lost only one game (Round 8 against American player Singh Siddharth), and secured 8 wins and 2 draws.

Dau Khuong Duy placed second with 9 wins and 2 losses. Also in the U14 category, Vietnamese player Duong Vu Anh earned a bronze medal with a total of 8 points.
