The Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team made history by winning the gold medal for the first time at the ISTAF World Cup held in Hyderabad, India. In the group stage, the women's team defeated South Korea (2-0), Myanmar (2-1), and France (2-0) to advance to the final.
In the team of four (quadrant event), the female players, including Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen, Nguye Thi Yen, Nguyen Thi My, and Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, defeated the Thai women's team with a score of 2-1 (15-12, 12-15, 15-13).
This is the best achievement of Vietnamese Sepak Takraw at the world stage. Previously, the best result for Vietnam at the World Cup was five silver medals. Thailand remains the most successful country in the world tournament with nine gold medals.
At the 2023 SEA Games, also in the team of four category, the Vietnamese women's team lost to Thailand in the final and won the silver medal. However, Vietnam still secured the gold medal in the doubles event with the victory of Ngoc Huyen and Nguyen Thi Yen over Myanmar.
