Vietnam wins second gold medal at the Asian shooting Cup

Three shooters Ha Minh Thanh, Pham Quang Huy and Vu Tien Nam helped Vietnam win the first gold medal in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol team event at the 2025 Asian Cup.

In the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol event, shooters were divided into two groups, competing on February 17 and 18. In each round, the shooters performed three speed shooting series (each consisting of two sets of 5 shots) in 8 seconds, 6 seconds, and 4 seconds.

In the individual final, the top six shooters from the qualification round performed five-shot series. Starting from the fourth five-shot series, the shooter with the lowest total score was eliminated progressively until the gold medal winner was determined.

After overcoming their competitors, the three shooters of the Vietnam Shooting Team—Ha Minh Thanh, Pham Quang Huy, and Vu Tien Nam—won the gold medal in the team event with a total score of 1727-53x. The silver medal in this event went to the Japan team, while the Indonesia team took the bronze medal.

This is the first time that Vietnam's shooting team has won the gold medal in the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol team event at an Asian-level competition. Earlier, on February 12, Vietnam had already claimed a gold medal in the mixed 10m air pistol event, thanks to Pham Quang Huy and Trinh Thu Vinh.

As of today, the Vietnam Shooting Team is temporarily ranked 6th in the overall medal standings of the competition, with two golds, one silver, and fout bronzes. In the coming days, Vietnam's shooters will continue competing in the 50m three-position rifle and 25m standard pistol events.

The Asian Shooting Cup is taking place from February 9 to 22 in Bangkok, Thailand. At the competition, athletes will compete in rifle and air pistol events, including 7 men’s individual events, 5 women’s individual events, 2 mixed events, and 6 events for youth athletes. This year’s competition has attracted over 280 top shooters from 22 countries and territories.

Vietnam’s shooting team is participating with a squad of 18 athletes, including prominent names such as Trinh Thu Vinh (women's air pistol), Le Thi Mong Tuyen (women's air rifle), Pham Quang Huy (men's air pistol), and Ha Minh Thanh (men's sports pistol). Additionally, the coaching staff has created opportunities for some promising young shooters to participate to gain experience and improve their skills. Vietnam's shooters will compete in 14 events at the tournament.
