In 2024, the sports sector completed many assigned tasks.

On the afternoon of December 26, at the Ba Dinh Sports Center, the Sports Authority of Viet Nam held a conference to review the work of 2024 and plan for 2025. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoàng Đạo Cương attended and delivered a speech at the conference.

Attending the Conference were Chairman of Sports Authority Đặng Hà Việt, Vice Chairwoman Lê Thị Hoàng Yến, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Hồng Minh, management and technical officials from the units and functional divisions under the Authority.

Reporting on sports activities in 2024, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Hồng Minh emphasized: In 2024, the entire sports sector focused intensely on participating in the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, France; At the same time, has urgently implemented Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW dated January 31, 2024, of the Politburo on the development of sports in the new period and the Sports Development Strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Alongside these tasks, the sports sector has intensified its efforts to review and develop institutions and policies in the field of sports, rectify discipline and administrative regulations, and focus on addressing bottlenecks and prominent issues in the sports sector...

In that context, thanks to the close attention and direction of the Party Committee and the Ministry's leadership, the coordination of agencies, units, national sports federations, associations, and localities, and the implementation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 2024 action motto "Accelerate, Innovate, Achieve," with the spirit of "3 Determinations, 4 Proactiveness, 5 Effectiveness," the Sports Authority has basically completed the assigned tasks, ensuring quality and progress, contributing to the overall mission of the entire Culture, Sports and Tourism sector.

In 2024, Vietnamese sports had 16 athletes from 11 sports qualified for the Olympics in Paris. At this largest sports arena in the world, the athletes and coaches have strived to give their all for the colors of the flag, for sports achievements, always united and with a desire to rise up. The performance metrics of most athletes have improved, such as in Rowing, Shooting, Archery, and Cycling... For athletes competing in direct combat sports, they have also made significant marks in events like badminton and boxing.

Deputy Minister Hoàng Đạo Cương spoke at the Conference

At the Paris Olympic arena, the performance of Vietnamese sports did not meet the expectations of experts and fans. However, immediately after the Olympics concluded, the sports sector promptly assessed and learned from the experience with solutions such as: rectifying the training and management of athletes at the National Sports Training Centers and developing new projects and policies to focus on targeted investments, aiming for the upcoming ASIAD and Olympics.

Also in 2024, the Sports Authority summoned 2.267 athletes and 423 coaches (including the youth team with 1.012 athletes and 198 coaches) for training at 4 National Sports Training Centers and Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports; coordinated with localities, federations, and national sports associations to organize 228 national and international sports competitions held in Viet Nam, and 23 training courses for national sports coaches and referees.

The international competition results in 2024 for high-performance sports show that Viet Nam has won 1.365 international medals (542 gold, 406 silver, 417 bronze). Notably, for the first time, the women's Futsal team won the Southeast Asian Championship; athlete Trịnh Thu Vinh excelled at the Paris 2024 Olympics, reaching the finals in two events: the 10m air pistol and the 25m sports pistol (in which Trịnh Thu Vinh finished at 4th place overall in the 10m air pistol event). The women's volleyball team won the bronze medal at the World Championship for the first time; the gold medal at the Asian Volleyball Cup for the second time, and many other outstanding achievements.

In addition, the movement of sports for all has developed widely, with many local sports activities being organized enthusiastically across the country, especially simple forms of exercise that do not require much investment in facilities and equipment such as: marathon, walking, health exercises, badminton, martial arts, football, beach volleyball, pickleball...

According to statistical data, in 2024, the number of people regularly practicing sports nationwide is estimated to reach 37.5% (an increase of 0.8% compared to 2023); the number of families regularly practicing sports nationwide is estimated to reach 28.3% of the total households (an increase of 0.7% compared to 2023). 27 competitions and national-level mass sports events continued to be organized throughout the year, attracting over 20.000 athletes; thereby discovering and nurturing talent for the development of high-performance sports.

In addition, over the past year, the sports sector has coordinated with the education sector, the civil service union, and the youth union to successfully organize the 13th Southeast Asian Student Sports Games in Da Nang, the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival, the Viet Nam Civil Service Union Sports Festival, along with summer opening activities, Children's Olympic Day, and the nationwide launch of swimming training to prevent drowning...

Regarding the activities of Sports for People with Disabilities, the Vietnamese sports delegation participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympics achieved their set goals when athlete Lê Văn Công won a valuable bronze medal in the 49kg weight category in weightlifting. This achievement has helped the Vietnamese Paralympic team secure medals for the third consecutive time at the Paralympics, following the years 2016 and 2021.

Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoàng Đạo Cương agreed with the 2024 summary report and the 2025 task direction of the sports sector. At the same time, he appreciated the efforts and solidarity of the collective leadership, officials, and staff of the Sports Authority, as well as the referees, coaches, and athletes across the country, who have overcome difficulties to successfully complete their assigned tasks.

Deputy Minister Hoàng Đạo Cương hopes that, alongside the achieved results, the entire sector also needs to candidly acknowledge the remaining issues and limitations in a spirit of humility and responsibility, in order to promptly implement corrective measures in the near future, especially in the management work at some affiliated units.

Taking into account the directives from Deputy Minister Hoàng Đạo Cương, Chairman Đặng Hà Việt affirmed: As we move into 2025, there will be many challenges and difficulties, but the entire sector is determined to strive to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the goals set by the sector in both management, administration, and professional work. In addition to improving athletes' performance on the international stage, the sports sector continues to focus closely on promoting the development of sports for all across the country; it will also continue to reorganize and strengthen its apparatus according to the guidance and direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
