Promote and strengthen sports cooperative relations between Viet Nam and China

On the morning of December 18, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Trần Thị Diệu Thúy, had a meeting and working session with a delegation from the National Sports Administration of China, led by Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman Trương Gia Thắng.

Attending the meeting were Mrs. Lê Thị Hoàng Yến – Deputy Director of the Sports Authority, Mr. Nguyễn Nam Nhân – Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, and Mr. Trần Xuân Thủy – Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City.

Viet Nam and China have a long-standing friendship, with mountains and rivers connected, and many cultural similarities; both countries are led by the Communist Party and share the common goal of building socialism. The good friendship and close brotherly feelings between the peoples of Viet Nam and China, painstakingly nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, have now yielded excellent results.

The Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the National Sports Administration of China presented a souvenir to Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.

The traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and China have been elevated by the leaders of both countries to the level of a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Over the past 75 years, since the establishment of official diplomatic relations, the two sides have not only focused on promoting political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation but also cultural, tourism, and sports cooperation. The significant results achieved in sports cooperation between the two sides have contributed to the increasingly positive bilateral relationship.

Notably, in recent times, both Viet Nam and China have signed cooperation agreements in sports between the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the National Sports Administration of the People's Republic of China on July 19, 2010, in Beijing; a memorandum of understanding on sports cooperation between the Viet Nam Sports Administration, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Viet Nam and the Sports Bureau of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China signed on August 28, 2019, in Nanning, Guangxi; and a cooperation agreement between the Viet Nam Anti-Doping Center and the China Anti-Doping Agency (VADC and CHINADA) signed on September 24, 2023, in Hangzhou.

In addition, each year, the two sides regularly exchange delegations of senior leaders and management officials to share experiences and promote sports cooperation between the two countries. Since 2016, the two sides have agreed to exchange delegations on an alternating basis, with each side sending one delegation each year. Viet Nam and China regularly invite delegations of officials to attend the National Sports Games when held in each country to learn organizational experience, while also supporting each other in multilateral sports forums.

Besides, every year, China sends skilled experts to share their experiences and directly participate in training the national sports teams in Viet Nam in disciplines such as Table tennis, Wushu, Swimming, and Weightlifting... At the same time, China is always ready to support and create the most favorable conditions for Viet Namese athletes when they come for training (mainly in Guangxi and Yunnan) to prepare for international sports events such as the SEA Games, ASIAD, and the Olympics...

For many years, besides sending delegations of athletes to compete in the sports events organized by each side, Viet Nam has also sent delegations to participate in friendly sports competitions organized by China, such as: the China-ASEAN Youth Football Friendship Tournament "Song Qingling Cup" in Beijing; the China-ASEAN Table Tennis Cup - Silk Road in Baise, Guangxi; the Asia-Pacific and China-ASEAN Forum on Sports for All Development in Nanning, Guangxi; and the Viet Nam-China 2024 Self-Driving Sports Car Rally...

It is known that for many years, Viet Nam and China have maintained cooperation in the field of sports medicine and sports science research; however, it has not yet gone in-depth and there has not been much specific collaboration. Sports medicine and sports science research in China are a strong point, highly developed, with the application of modern scientific technology effectively supporting the training of professional athletes in terms of expertise, nutrition, as well as recovery and injury treatment, which is considered among the best in the

The delegation visited and encouraged the U19 Football team and the Athletics team.

Therefore, with its rich history of achievements and being one of the sports powerhouses in the world, Viet Nam hopes to receive even more cooperation and support in the field of research and application of modern science and technology. Accordingly, recently, Viet Nam has sent a delegation to participate in the first China-ASEAN International Conference on National Physical Fitness and Public Health in Ningbo (Zhejiang) from November 16-19, 2023, and The 2nd International Sports Science Conference on Physical Fitness and Health China-ASEAN in Xi'an (Shaanxi) from October 8-12, 2024. This is a conference within the framework of ASEAN + China cooperation, aimed at strengthening the foundation for exchange and collaboration among sports science experts from China and ASEAN to promote in-depth exchanges on sports science and culture among the stakeholders.

After the morning working session, the delegation of the National Sports Administration of China and representatives of various agencies visited the U19 Football team and the Athletics team who were training at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. Here, Mr. Trương Gia Thắng – Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the National Sports Administration of China encouraged the young Vietnamese athletes.
