The event brought together 340 young players from 35 countries, competing in U14, U16, and U18 categories across open and girls' sections. The Vietnamese team participated with 15 players.
Competing in the U14 boy's category, Khuong Duy amassed an impressive total of 9.5 points over 11 games, finishing at the top of the standings. He suffered only one defeat against Haug Havard from Norway, alongside one draw and nine wins. Despite a strong effort, Havard concluded the tournament with 9 points, earning him the silver medal.
Vietnam won another bronze medal through Nguyen Nam Kiet, who scored 8 points.
In the U14 girl’s category, Dang Le Xuan Hien ended the 11 rounds with a total of 9 points, securing the second gold medal for Vietnam. During the competition, Xuan Hien lost only one game, drew two, and won eight games.
The third gold medal for the Vietnamese youth chess team was won by Nguyen Binh Vy in the U16 girl’s category. Binh Vy scored a total of 9.5 points after 11 rounds, securing the top spot. Additionally, player Nguyen Ngoc Hien participated in this group but finished in tenth place with 6 points.
The tournament is set to continue until December 17, local time.
