Vietnam wins eighteen golds at the 2024 Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships

Vietnamese athletes continued their impressive performance on the second day of the 2024 Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships (December 7) taking place in Thailand.

On December 7, Duong Van Hoang Quy won two golds in the 200m freestyle (1’53”99) and 400m individual medley (4’43”09) in the boys' 14-15 years old. This brought his total individual gold medals to five.

Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Han earned a gold medal in the 400m individual medley in the girls' 14-15 years old; Tran Van Nguyen Quoc won gold in the men's junior 200m freestyle; Pham Phuoc Nhan also claimed gold in the 400m Freestyle in the U13 age group; Mai Tran Tuan Anh secured gold in the men's junior 200m backstroke; and Nguyen Quang Thuan won gold in the men's junior 400m individual medley.

Young swimmer Nguyen Thuy Hien added two more golds on December 7, winning the 200m freestyle in the girls' 14-15 years old and the 50m butterfly in the girls' 14-15 years old with a new age group record of 27”73 (This broke the previous record set by En Qi Hoong (Singapore) 10 years ago at 27”84).

After two days of competition, the Vietnam is currently in second place overall with eighteen golds, eighteen silvers, and nine bronzes. The host country, Thailand, leads the standings with twenty-nine golds, thirty-six silvers, and twenty-eight bronzes.

The championships, which will last till December 8, features 10 teams with Thailand having the highest number of 111 swimmers. Việt Nam sent 34 competitors participating in all categories.
