Vietnamese sepak takraw team wins gold medal in women's doubles at King's Cup 2026

Vietnamese female sepak takraw players won the gold medal in the women's doubles at the King's Cup 2026 after defeating Myanmar 2-0 in the final match, held in Bangkok (Thailand).

In the women's doubles final, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang and Nguyen Thi Khanh Ly, along with Hong Lien as a substitute, played confidently against Myanmar. In the first set, the Vietnamese athletes controlled the match thanks to their well-coordinated teamwork and good individual technique, thereby securing a 15-7 victory.

In the second set, Myanmar played more aggressively in an effort to turn the tide. However, the Vietnamese players remained calm, effectively neutralizing the opponent's difficult plays and organizing sharp counter-attacks to win 15-12.

In the end, the Vietnamese team defeated Myanmar 2-0, thereby winning the gold medal in the women's doubles event. This is the first time Vietnamese sepak takraw has won a gold medal in this event at the King's Cup. Previously, at the 2025 tournament, the Vietnam women's team won the championship in the women's quadrant (team of 4) event.

Along with the women's doubles event, the Vietnamese team also featured in the final of the women's quadrant event against the host nation Thailand. The two teams created a tightly contested match for every point. Vietnam won the first set with a score of 17-14, but then let Thailand overcome them in the next two sets, ultimately taking the silver medal.

The King's Cup 2026 took place in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 4 to 11, featuring 4 events for men and 4 events for women. The tournament gathered the top sepak takraw teams in Asia, including many teams that are actively preparing for the 20th ASIAD in Japan.
