Vietnam remains unbeaten in the Asian championship qualifiers

The Vietnam women's futsal team wrapped up their Group D qualification campaign for the 2025 AFC women's futsal championship with a 2-2 draw against Chinese Taipei on January 19. This result secured them the top spot in the group, giving them a significant advantage when the final draw for the main tournament takes place.

Before the final Group D match on the afternoon of January 19, both Vietnam and Chinese Taipei had 6 points. However, the Vietnamese team topped the group due to a better goal difference (+25 compared to +22). With a stronger lineup and a relaxed mindset, Vietnam entered the match confidently and created several notable chances early on, including a shot by Thanh Hang that hit the post. In this match, Chinese Taipei focused on building a solid defensive strategy, making it difficult for the Vietnamese strikers to get close to their goal.

Despite being under pressure, Chinese Taipei’s fast counterattacks were still dangerous. In the 10th minute, they took the lead with a goal from Chen Min Huang, who finished a cross from a teammate with a shot into the top corner of the net, making it 1-0.

After conceding, Coach Nguyen Đinh Hoang called for a timeout to calm the players’ nerves. Following the break, the Vietnamese team equalized. Thuy Trang's pass to the wing was crossed by Bien Thị Hang, setting up Thanh Ngan for a goal to make it 1-1.

In the 17th minute, Chinese Taipei regained the lead with a close-range shot from Liu Chih Ling. In the 39th minute, Vietnam celebrated when Bien Thị Hang scored the equalizer, bringing the score to 2-2. Securing a point in this match was enough to ensure Vietnam topped Group D.

The 2025 AFC Women's Futsal Championship will take place in China from May 7 to May 18, 2025. In the final tournament, 12 teams will be divided into 3 groups. The top 2 teams from each group, along with the 2 best third-place teams, will advance to the quarterfinals. The top 3 teams in the final standings will earn tickets to the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup, which will be held for the first time in the Philippines from October 21 to November 7, 2025.
